Innovative Design Transforms Traditional Southeast Asian Style into Modern Dining Experience

Li Gan Li Qian's Award-Winning Restaurant Design: Run Season Coconut Chicken Hot Pot

Li Gan Li Qian, a renowned design team, has successfully transformed traditional Southeast Asian elements into a modern dining space for the Run Season Coconut Chicken Hot Pot restaurant. The design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, offers a unique and comfortable dining experience.

The inspiration for the design came from the client's desire to create a restaurant that deviated from the traditional Southeast Asian style. The design team was also inspired by the local brocade of the Li nationality, a group with a long history in Hainan. The result is a space that effectively handles the interaction between people and the landscape, cleverly separating the customer and service streams.

Run Season is a special catering brand that focuses on coconut chicken hot pot. The design team used modern techniques to transform local Southeast Asian elements into a brand-new brand image. The selection of green as the main color of the space was deliberate, as it evokes a healthy, tropical, and relaxed feeling, reminiscent of the smell of coconut. Green glaze-covered bricks, texture paint, velvet seats, and green plant decorations were used to match the overall woody and gray space.

The project covers a total of 600 square meters, with the aim of creating a variety of dining spaces. The design team took advantage of the height of the space to build two semi-private "House in House" in the center. This was achieved through dismantling and reconstructing the roof truss made of bamboo and thatch, a signature of Southeast Asia.

The design project started in March 2018 in Suzhou and was completed in May 2018. The design team faced several challenges, including the use of modern design methods to dismantle and renovate the thatched huts in Southeast Asia. The lifting wooden frame above the water bar evolved from the pattern of traditional Li brocade, presenting a rich and varied decorative visual effect to customers.

Li Gan Li Qian's innovative design approach has resulted in a unique dining space that offers a fresh take on traditional Southeast Asian style. The Run Season Coconut Chicken Hot Pot restaurant is not only a testament to the design team's creativity and skill but also a reflection of the evolving landscape of modern restaurant design.
